Yellowcard Live in Singapore | Concert Review
“Stop, turn, take a look around, At all the lights and sounds, let ’em bring you in.
Slow, burn, let it all fade out, and pull the curtain down…”
15 September was a date to remember for many Yellowcard fans in Singapore.
After years of anxiously waiting for them to hit our shores, Floridian quintet, Yellowcard, finally made their debut here at The Coliseum at Hard Rock Hotel Singapore! Back from their brief hiatus, Singapore was one of their tour pitstops to promote their new album, “Southern Air” . Famous for their much acclaimed albums such as “Ocean Avenue” and “Lights and Sounds” , Yellowcard separates from other bands as they introduced a violinist in their band to the pop punk/alternative rock scene.
As soon as I entered The Coliseum, I was greeted by the crunchy sounds of guitars and thunderous beat of the drums as the highly animated quintet belted out rock anthems such as “Breathing”, “Awakening” and “Five Becomes Four” to the 2000-strong audience. Fans of all ages, ranging from angry adolescents decked out in band t-shirts to middle-aged adults, sang their hearts out to their favorite Yellowcard tunes. I felt 15 once again as I jumped and cheered with the crowd to “Way Away”.
In between the set, the band members left the stage as Ryan Key gave the audience a heartfelt acoustic number, with “Sing For Me” which is dedicated to his late Aunt Stephanie. He ended the acoustic segment with “Empty Apartment” and requested for every person in The Coliseum to sing along with him if they know the words.
Yellowcard was highly interactive with their audience, cueing them to jump up and down one song after another and boy did the crowd go wild! Throughout the concert, I was overwhelmed with their incredible stage presence and high energy performances. Fans roared in union as they ended the night with my personal favourite “Ocean Avenue”, resulting in a fury of fans moshing and bodysurfing through the crowd!
“We were both eighteen and it felt so right, Sleeping all day, staying up all night!”
Yellowcard finally came and gave a flawless show, leaving no fans including myself, disapppointed.
8 years of anticipating their debut here in our humble little island was worth the wait!
Thank you Ryan Key, Sean Mackin, Ryan Mendez, Longineu Parsons and Josh Portman
for an unforgettable night!
