Top 5 Acts We Are Psyched For | Clockenflap 2017
Upon hearing that Clockenflap will be returning this year, a friendly dispute broke out in the office with staff debating on which bands will be joining the previously announced acts. We all had our respective decisions and when the full line-up was announced weeks later, let’s just say we were not disappointed.
After a series of banters and much consideration, our team finally settled on the top 5 acts we want to catch at Clockenflap this year:
Gym and Swim
Gym and Swim is one of the most intriguing band in recent years, comprised of members from various sound influences. They all belong thier own bands, started from Chalerm (vocal and synthesizer, from Seal Pillow), Pokpong (guitar and synthesizer, from Plastic Plastic), Terk (guitar and chorus, from The Leprosy), Hob (bass and synthesizer, from Details) and lastly Mudmee (drums, from Merry Go Round). The band’s debut and first released on Parinam Music, titled Iron Man. Granted to frenetic sound and honest lyric, this song rapidly climbs up to no.7 in Fat Radio 40 Chart within a week. The second track, Octopussy, consists of waggling melody and vintage sound. The song is all about asking a girl out to the beach for a date but instead of expressing his love, he’s just offer her a diving for octopus. Yuuwahuu, the third single inspired by tropical pop, is mentioned about the lost guy who can’t figure any ways out among load of problems, only can shout YUUWAHUU out loud. The latest track, Bunny House, the band still offers tropical-inspired music and it just feels like having fun and running around in the super-cutie bunny colony.
A New World If You Can Take It – ANWIYCTI
A New World If You Can Take It – ANWIYCTI is a band that has abandoned the guitar in exchange for three basses, all in lead positions. Their full name ‘A New World If You Can Take It’. The band indulges in the 90’s American indie-rock era – the savage Sonic Youth, Medicine-like noise, and the raw expression of Pavement.
TOTORRO is one unique band. Hard to classify. Instrumental music that tells you stories, that makes you feel special, special sensations, special emotions. It is complicated, but it is catchy! Like a magical maths teacher who makes you love maths in a magical way. No singer. Some people say it is “”math rock””. You just observer the two guitar players (Christophe Le Flohic and Jonathan Siche), the bass player (Xavier Rose), and the drummer (Bertrand James). Everything just match to perfection, like if they were living together for ever. It is solid. Their first album, “”Home Alone””, out in April 2014, is some kind of synthesis of TOTORRO. The roots of this growing tree. Its music says “”come in our rollercoaster, we’re gonna have fun””. And it works! Fans of Beyoncé, fans of Sonic Youth, fans of the most specific math-rock band, everyone get caught! October 2016 will be an exciting: here is coming TOTORRO’s second album: “”Come to Mexico””. Like the Chapter II of this amazing previous chapter, the band develops their fresh but heavy, technical but fun, smart but naive, music. Like a perfect lemonade under a too massive sun. Come to Mexico!
Set to close the festival on Sunday with their spectacular full live show, MASSIVE ATTACK will be performing their one and only Southeast Asian show of the year at Clockenflap 2017, demonstrating why they have been one of the most influential acts of the past 30 years.
The Dandy Warhols
US indie heroes THE DANDY WARHOLS will be playing their festival friendly set only at Clockenflap 2017.
Celebrated Portland indie-rockers THE DANDY WARHOLS, the band behind sing-along anthems such as Bohemian Like You and Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth, will be playing an Asia exclusive set at Clockenflap 2017.
You can take a look at the full lineup here.
See you there!
