‘Synthetica’ | Metric
Heads up to all indie music fans as the most epic album yet of 2012 will be released in June. Metric, the Canadian indie rock band will be back into the music scene with their fifth studio album titled- Synthetica.
Looking back at Metric’s history, they have come pretty far. First founded in 1998 in Toronto, the band consists of vocalist, Emily Haines, guitarist James Shaw, bassist Josh Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key. The band earned a Juno Award nomination for Best Alternative Album when they first released their album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? in 2003. In 2005, Metric was nominated for the 2006 Polaris Music Prize for the Canadian Album of The Year and once again the Juno Award nomination for Best Alternative Album when Live It Out was released. In 2009, their fourth album, Fantasies was shortlisted for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize for Canadian Album of the Year, and won the Alternative Album of the Year at the 2010 Juno Awards. Besides winning the Alternative Album of the Year award, Metric also won the Juno Award for Group of the Year.
This June, as mentioned, Metric will be releasing their new album- Synthetica.
“SYNTHETICA is about staying home and wanting to crawl out of your skin from the lack of external stimulation. SYNTHETICA is about forcing yourself to confront what you see in the mirror when you finally stand still long enough to catch a reflection. SYNTHETICA is about being able to identify the original in a long line of reproductions. It’s about what is real VS what is artificial”, wrote Emily in a note to her fans on Metric’s website.
SYNTHETICA was also described as “insomnia, fucking up, fashion, all the devices and gadgets attached to our brains, getting wasted, watching people die in other countries, watching people die in your own country, dancing your ass off, questioning the cops, poetic justice, standing up for yourself, sex, the apocalypse, doing some stupid shit and totally regretting it but then telling everyone it made you stronger, leaving town as a solution to unsolvable problems, owning your actions and owning your time”.
The album’s first single, Youth Without Youth, has been released on 1 May 2012.
