Storybook Project | Iga Drobisz
There are 6 billion of us walking this planet. 6 billion smaller worlds, each filled with triumph & tragedy, good & evil, despair & hope. The world is made of stories. Here’s a story of Iga Drobisz, a Polish photographer and model that shares her thoughts with ActuallyMAG about being both behind & in front of the camera.
What do you do?
I travel, I breathe. Constantly. I think it’s easy to become oversaturated in a networked world where everything is at your fingertips. It’s important to identify what you want to do and even more difficult to make the time to do it. I make the time to travel.
Where is your favourite place in the world?
Although I’ve never been there, but I think it’s South America. Also, no matter how much I travel, there is no place like the Polish countryside. This is where most of my dreams take place. I feel that the Polish nurture and nature combine, continues to influence my development as a person and photographer.
Do you feel objectified as a model?
Do you feel empowered when you are a photographer?
Sometimes, during my shoots I shout uncontrollably. I’m not sure whether if it has something to do with empowerment.
If you could jump into a photograph, to just live for that one moment, which would it be and why?
It would be one of David Hamilton’s outdoor shots. It would epitomize sisterhood in the old days surrounded by fields and forests, hay and wild horses…youthful innocence!
Do you have any special memories of things you did on a regular basis with your family in the Polish countryside?
I was born in Bialystok, a city with a population of 350,000. When I say “my” Polish countryside I mean my grandparents summerhouse just outside of the city. They’re beekeepers, so my memories over those times are as sweet as honey
Why did you choose to be a photographer?
You don’t choose it. You feel it and you do it.
