“Art the Hall 2011″ | Singapore’s First Art Garage
We often lament that Singapore is very dense, space is precious and expensive. Condominium units are going smaller but the price is going higher. Art? Is there even space for art?
Terence Tan, an independent arts producer in Singapore had a thought. Instead of continuing to complain, mope and be immobilized, he wants to prove through this Art Garage project, that we need not be limited to traditional arts spaces like formal galleries. Through creative improvisation, “The Hall” at The Arts House, meant for theatre performance, will be transformed to an “art gallery”.
This Art Garage, is a movement offered to start-up emerging artists like me, who would probably not get a chance to ever exhibit (More on the inside story of this movement here). Last Sunday, we’ve begun experimenting, decking a hall meant for theatre with our artworks. With Christmas coming, where people will be singing “Deck the Halls with boughs of Holly”, we will be coming together to “Art the Hall” with hearts of jolly. How often, do we get an opportunity like this?
Come on down and celebrate authentic, ground-up arts together with us!
