Singapore Guide | Music – Caracal

As veterans of the Singaporean underground music scene since 2007, Caracal rightfully deserves their current distinction as the forerunners of the country’s post-hardcore arena. Consisting of CARACAL is K.C. Meals (vocals), Gabriel De Souza (guitar), Field Teo (guitar), Henry Velge (bass) & Martin Kong (drums), But the progression from small-time band to one that has played in numerous prominent music events and festivals all over the world has not been an easy path. The culmination of all the blood, sweat and tears apexed in 2011, when Caracal released their intensely visceral debut full-length BEAR. SHARK. WOLF. It was a record that fittingly captured the very essence of all that Caracal stood for: sincere cathartic expressions, crushing audial assaults and raw youth.

This is not music for the simple-minded masses; this is the voice of the dispirited, a beacon of conviction and hope for the damaged. The brutally honest lyrical motifs of sorrow and loss intertwine with stunning guitar-play that flits seamlessly between soaring harmonic lines and heavy riffs, a testament to the band’s technical competence. The result is an archetypical Caracal sound – stunning moments of poetic beauty layered into confident, aggressive melodies.

Why we love Caracal: These guys  know how to do post-hardcore and hard rock right; that – combined with their honest lyrics – make for a great listen. You’ve got to keep tabs on these guys!
