People of Surabaya
Enticing in its own ways, Surabaya boasts a rich history of Indonesia’s independence and is one of the busiest ports in Indonesia, exporting mainly sugar, tobacco and coffee.
Many of the locals there worked in the services and retail sectors, with Surabaya being a hot spot for shopping in Indonesia. They are exceptionally friendly and accommodating to strangers and foreigners.
During Paul’s second visit to Surabaya, he learned more about the country and had the chance to explore the town for a few days. Walking along the streets, he photographed the smiling faces of people of Surabaya.
Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia and the capital of Jawa Timur (East Java), with a population of 2.8 million people (as of 2010) . It is located along the edge of the Madura Strait, on northeastern Java Island.
