Where do you live now and how long have you been living there?

I am a nomad by nature and before settling in Xiamen (coming to my second year here now) I have lived in Cairo, Istanbul and Milan and was born in Karagandy, Kazakhstan.

What are you current working as/at?

I am a production engineer in the oil and gas industry and I’m also an English tutor.

What languages are you able to speak?

Kazakh, Russian, English, Turkish and Italian.

What are your native languages?

Kazahk and Russian.

Describe your personality.

I am an inquisitive and dynamic person with many interests. I believe life is a great big adventure with so many opportunities to discover.

What kind of music are you listening to now?

I am currently into the music with ‘style-n-beats’ like Beyonce, Nicki Minaj (my hip-hop beast), Adele, Mariah Carey, Rihanna when I’m crazy for R&B, pop, rock,  and some Bebel Gilberto and Deise Mikhail when I’m chilling out.

Which do you spend more time on; TV series, movies or books? Name three to five of your favourite titles.

I get inspired by TV shows like So You Think You Can Dance, America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway, The Ellen Degeneres Show and TV series like Sex and the City, Vampire Diaries and South Park.

My favourite movies are The Devil Wears Prada, Sex and the City, 27 dresses, If only, Honey, Shooters, and Paranormal Activity.

Where should we stay on our visit to Xiamen?

You can find hotels within the Hotel INN chain with reasonable prices located all over the island. I would suggest staying on the mainland because there are two Hot Springs which takes the cake – one is Trithorn Hot Spring Resort and the other is Riyuegu Hot Spring Resort. It is a very relaxing place with many outdoor thermal pools, spas and the hot spring water that is also available in the hotel rooms.

Share with us some great restaurants in Xiamen.

As I am not much into Chinese food, I discovered a few nice places to go like Napoli Pizza restaurant for the best Italian cuisine. Good steak houses can be found in the Lian ban area where there’s a restaurant called Bullfighter Steak House. The Best Sushi is located at Robinson’s Galleria and another great restaurant called Motomi. There are plenty of Andy’s cafe branches within the island for fresh bakery products along with some nice European cuisine.

Which café in Xiamen would you recommend us to visit?

I prefer to go to Starbucks or some of the branches of a local coffeeshop called Gancuizhilu. They also serve nice coffee/tea and cheese cakes.

What is Xiamen’s best kept secret?

1) Gulang Island known as a ‘Garden on the sea’ because of the elegant and old fashionable buildings which takes you back in history.

2) The Hot spring park is perfect for the winter because it is refreshing, rejuvenating and always beckons you for a return. The Riyuegu Hot Spring Resort boasts about 150 hot springs pools, team adventure rope course facilities and a spa. Riyuegu is made up of three Chinese characters, meaning “sun” (ri), “moon” (yue) and “valley” (gu) respectively. In it is entirety; Riyuegu refers to valley with beautiful things in the world.

We should visit your city because …

Xiamen is an island and the city is located on it. It stands right opposite to Taiwan, the second largest city in the Fujian province. Xiamen is a great place to visit if you are interested in seeing a well-developing Chinese city. Go when the weather is nice and spend your time outdoors doing walks along the beaches, inland in the mountains or strolling the neighbouring Gulang Yu.

What are the last 3 cities you visited?

London, Shanghai and Singapore.

Which city do you plan to visit next?

What do you do in your free time?

I go to the gym regularly and I jog along the beach. I’m currently in love with the ‘freelancing’ process for some of garments and I upgrade them with my vision according to my inspirations  (which usually takes more time than I have).

Describe your personal style.

I describe my personal style as trendy and funky urban. What I wear also depends on my mood. Shoes, bag and accessories like shades and watches are very important for my style.

What inspires you in life?

 1)   ‘Every artist was first an amateur’

2)   ‘There is only one success – to be able to lead your life your own way’

Which would you choose; Android, Blackberry or Iphone?

I’m currently using the Iphone 4 but I recently fell in love with the Samsung Galaxy Note. The trendier side of me is telling me to grab it!

What are some of your facourite Ipod applications?

I mostly use instant voice messaging apps. The best I ever got is ‘Weixin’ which is similar to ‘Google Translate’and also the ‘Camera+’.
