Partners for Actually POP UP Store Event: The Cake Anthem and Selfiebox
As the weekend is nearing, our anticipation and excitement for our event this Friday is increasing too! We have partnered up with The Cake Anthem and Selfiebox for our event to give a night of sweet treats and a memory to keep in your hearts.
Here, we interviewed Athirah from The Cake Anthem and the people behind Selfiebox, to get to know them better.
The Cake Anthem
1. Tell me more about yourself.
My name is Athirah, 26 years old this year. I am socially awkward and I am obsessed with cats.
2. When did you first have an interest in baking?
Ever since I was young, I always enjoy baking. It probably when I was in upper primary. Whenever Hari Raya is around the corner, my sisters and I would join my mom, and occasionally my grandmother, to bake all sorts of sweet treats in the kitchen. We don’t always bake for our guests, but most of the time just so that we can enjoy them after our breakfast during Ramadan. Slowly as I grew older, I started experimenting more in the kitchen and it became a passion.
3. How did coming up with The Cake Anthem came about?
When I was flying as cabin crew with Singapore Airlines (SQ) in 2010, I had a lot of free time in Singapore, so I invested my time and money to experiment in the kitchen. I would bring back all sorts of baking materials from my trips and use them for my bakes when I’m back home. I took tons of pictures and posted them on my old instagram account. Eventually, the word got around and I started taking orders in 2014 during my off days. It really took off from there, after I begin taking part in charity bake sales. Although everything was really stressful and physically draining, it became a really fun part-time job. I had the constant support of my family, my husband (boyfriend back then) and close friends to cheer me on.
4. Where do you derive inspirations?
I get my inspiration from everywhere. I love simple and elegant cakes, incorporating fresh flowers in small amounts to bring the cake to life. So, I often find myself looking through Pinterest of wedding bouquets. On the other hand, I also love bright and bold colours with quirky and cute prints, so I get inspired by fashion too, like example, Lazy Oaf.
5. What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy reading a good book or taking some time off and do yoga. When I am feeling particularly lazy, the sofa and Youtube would be my companions for the day.
6. If you could only have one thing in the world, what would it be and why?
Probably the toughest question and I am going to say that I don’t know what I want.
1. Tell me more about yourselves.
We are a group of foodies (you should check out our pantry stash), who cherish every moment in our lives and are constantly on the go. We seek to capture the most out of every photo booth; AT AFFORDABLE RATES!
2. What started the whole ‘Selfiebox’ idea?
Cliché as it may sound, it all started out as simple idea of wanting to capture physical copies of great moments. So, what’s a better way to capture your moments than a click on your camera and print the photos out in an instant?
3. What do you do in your free time?
Not only in our free time, but even during office hours, we would play a few games of fuzboll (table soccer), table tennis and air hockey in the office. We all need a break from this fast paced society – once in awhile. We play hard and work harder!
4. If you could only have one thing in the world, what would it be and why?
That would be a teleport machine – to make travelling to photo booth events more efficient (especially when we have that much within a day). We are working on making this a reality, hopefully.
Delightful and freshly baked sweet treats and an exclusive photo booth for Instagram-worthy shots will be awaiting you this coming Friday! Find out more about them here for The Cake Anthem and Selfiebox.
Don’t forget to drop by and join us to celebrate our 10th anniversary and the opening of our biggest pop-up store to date!
