Melk Z da | Spring/Summer 2012
“Leaves, leaves, beautiful leaves… I saw them as the background on many self portraits of the famous Mexican artist Frida Khalo, and I tried to revisited them through the thousand species of the Brazilian flora, giving them shapes for the looks of Spring-Summer 2012.” says designer Melk Z da at his atelier on northern city Recife, surrounded by his artisans and embroiderers.
His latest runway showcase at Rio Fashion Week showed short dresses, skirts and tops constructed in white organza, tulle and silk with delicate details of PVC and fascinators inspired on the leaves of almonds and chesnut trees.
Mainly interested on the rescue of traditional textile technics and folk roots with an urban twist, he worked the pieces into a kind of puzzle, and also used the trims of popular baskets for their construction. The final result: a light, feminine and very wearable collection of garments as his statement.
