F**k Hate, Let’s Love

M33A7791Since 2009, Pink Dot SG has fought bravely, amidst adversity, to bring together thousands of Singaporeans for a day to celebrate the Freedom to Love. Now in this day and age, it is a wonder that bold statements like this should have to be spelt out to everyone. But when they are, let’s get behind a cause that calls for a kinder and inclusive society — especially one that basically gives us a free pass to wear pink whilst gambolling about Hong Lim Park.

The innocence of that image aside, Pink Dot SG’s rallying message of love and inclusivity is a serious and urgent one. The event’s merry-making mask shields decades of discrimination, neglect and abuse toward the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) community who form a vital portion of our Singapore’s society. This year’s message is simple: to draw attention to the everyday heroes who change lives through acts of love, compassion and understanding.

We believe it is important to show support for what we care for through engaging with more visible forms of expression. In the spirit of love and kindness, ACTUALLY has teamed up with local label MASH-UP to produce a capsule collection in support of our Freedom to Love. Both homegrown brands have partnered to create a range of T-shirts, Caps and Tote Bags featuring Pink Dot SG’s mascot, Pinkie.

In addition to Pinkie, MASH-UP has chosen to use the Crown as a motif throughout the collection (YASSS KWEEN). And rightfully so, because regardless of gender, race or religion, an all-inclusive society built on the tenets of love and kindness should honour each and everyone of us for the individuals we are. Proceeds from the sale of the products will also be used to cover the costs of running the event. The collection’s fun and quirky and completely irreverent details aim to instil a sense of playfulness and innocence.

So come June 4th, be proud and wear that pink. Perhaps then, some of us might get reminded of a time where that child-like virtuosity can only exist in a space free of hatred or discrimination.

The capsule collection will be made available at ACTUALLY, orchardgateway #03-18, starting from 2nd May 2016.
