Elyn Wong | Fashion Designer
ELYN WONG is a fashion designer and the founder of Stolen. A graduate of Visual Communication and trained in graphic design, Elyn’s journey to becoming a fashion designer was an unconventional one. Her approach to garment construction is informed by her passions for architecture, particularly the Brutalist movement, and installation art, invoking a structured rather than decorative form.
Taking its name from a philosophical teaching of Mahatma Gandhi, which proposes that taking more than what is needed equates to stealing, the Stolen label is also inspired by this idea of possessing the minimum. Only that which is necessary; nothing gratuitous, and nothing wasted:
“I suggest that we are thieves in a way. If I take anything that I do not need for my own immediate use, and keep it, I thieve it from somebody else … A thing not originally stolen must nevertheless be classified stolen property, if one possesses it without needing it.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Stolen silhouettes are therefore pure and minimalist rather than superfluous. Colour palettes are muted, neutral and timeless. No needless embellishments, no frivolous ornamentation. An exposed back, revealing one of the most elegant parts of the feminine body, has become the recognisable signature detail of a Stolen garment. Impervious to trends, Elyn’s garments constantly challenge the distinction between fashion and art, acting as sculptural fabric vessels to accentuate the sensuality, fragility and strength of the modern woman.
Having already gained a cult following amongst Singapore’s tastemakers and fashion insiders, Stolen is also currently stocked in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Los Angeles and New York.
It is fast gaining international exposure as one of the few labels representing Singapore in prestigious events like the Tranoi trade show in Paris and Coterie’s TMRW section in New York, as well as being invited to international trade shows, exhibitions and creative projects in Italy, Hong Kong, London, New York, China and Switzerland.
Other accolades include being handpicked as the only representative for fashion from Singapore participating in Singapore: InsideOut – an international travelling showcase to Beijing, London and New York, selected by Refinery29 as an up-and-coming Southeast Asian fashion label and the Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail, where the label was commissioned by Singapore’s National Heritage Board to design a limited edition tote bag. Stolen was recently featured in Creative Culture: The Singapore Showcase, a special edition of Underscore magazine featuring the top 100 creatives in Singapore across all fields.
