Designing Waste Out Of Fashion | THE ECOCHIC DESIGN AWARD
Last month The EcoChic Design Award 2014/15 sustainable fashion design competition opened its doors for the second time to emerging fashion designers in Singapore, challenging designers to cut waste out of fashion.
To compete for career-changing prizes, applicants must select one or more of the minimal waste design techniques zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction, to design a ‘Modern China Chic’ contemporary and wearable womenswear collection that reflects style as much as sustainability.
High profile judges from Singapore will determine the semi-finalists from the region. The judges include Sharon Lim, Editor-in-Chief of ELLE Singapore, Winnie So, Chief Knitwear Designer of Shanghai Tang, and Singaporean-Japanese fashion designer and pioneer of Singapore’s sustainable fashion design scene, Yumiko Uno, Co-Founder of organic cotton fashion brand, Etrican.
Alongside designers from the regions of Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, UK, France, Germany and Sweden, one Singapore-based fashion designer is guaranteed to become a finalist and travel to Hong Kong in January 2015 to show a sustainable collection on the runway at Hong Kong Fashion Week where the winners will be announced.
