Above & Beyond – Anjunabeats Volume 9

Hanging around a record store browsing for CDs is not a regular affair nowadays.  I miss the dance section in HMV, where a room was dedicated to dance music! There I was, on a Saturday night, determined to purchase a good dance CD at HMV. All thanks to the available listening stations, I managed to grab myself some CDs including Above & Beyond, Anjunabeats Volume 9.

I was very excited to start listening to this record. While driving home I put the disc on play and within a few tracks on disc 1, I  was already moving and shrugging my shoulders, tapping my fingers and bobbing my head! In that instant I felt that I had to hit the dance floor (or maybe it was just me yearning for a good mix of vodka)! Images of club-goers with they fist pumping and leg shuffling were so vivid in my mind that I had to call someone out at the traffic light!

Although the genre is categorised  as electronica, I find the melody to be progressive  and slightly therapeutic . Some of the tracks that had upbeat tempos and rhythm would make perfect songs for a fashion runway show.

Halfway home, I moved on to the second disc and the music was louder and higher in octave. It felt almost like the music during the second half of the night in the club when you’re on an intense ‘high’. By which of course you are probably overdosed on great music and a round of drinks that could fxxking care less about anything! Your eyes are shut and your hands are up in the air – That’s exactly how I felt after listening to disc 2!

Having said all that, I admit that I have zero knowledge about this record, Above & Beyond. Usually in these cases, I trust Google (like most people do) and do a search!

Above & Beyond is a trio of Jono, Tony and Paavo .Their recored label, Anjunabeats celebrated its 10th year in 2011 and have more than 200 single releases.  Most media describes their music to be modern, melodic, emotive and unrestricted.
