A Whistle-Stop Coffee Break | Coffee Kitchen
Thanks to the strong coffee culture in Seoul, coffee shops are a dime a dozen, to the extent where it might be a little difficult to differentiate the really good haunts from the so-so ones. So here’s a suggestion— The next time you happen to be in Apgujeong and in need of a proper pick-me-up, do yourself a favor and head down to a tiny coffee paradise tucked away in one of the many alleys situated at Gaosugil-dong.
Clean, minimal and sparsely decorated, Coffee Kitchen makes it pretty clear from the onset that the quality of coffee is their first and foremost priority. They roast all their beans in-house, and keep each batch for a maximum of three days (although this is not necessary at all as business is brisk). Everything is freshly made or brewed on the spot. You can order your favourite Americano, Cappuccino, Latte or even Affogate coffee, which is a shot of espresso mixed with vanilla ice-cream, which will surely hit the spot on a hot and sunny afternoon.
You can choose to have your coffee at the casual in-door sitting area, or if the weather is nice, enjoy an idyllic day sitting outside and people watching in the busy Apgujeong district, which has sometimes been touted as the ‘Manhattan of Seoul’. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed and it is a great place to chill out or have a good get-together with friends. Here, time can wait, if only for a little while. But if you are in a rush, opt for take-out, as many locals do.
