2011 Creative Industries Fair

The annual Creative Industries (CI) Fair, organized by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), aims to promote and showcase the various training opportunities available in the Creative Industries. If you are working in the design, art or media sectors, or am simply interested in finding out more about how to have a good spot of fun that’s pretty edifying at the same time, listen closely.

The CI Fair will be taking place on 23 and 24 July 2011, from 10am – 10pm at Marina Square. WDA’s training partners, such as Digipen, Esplanade and 3D Sense will also be setting up booths to showcase their courses and their student’s works. The programme this year will be run by Six Degrees, a network for freelancers and organizations working in the creative sector. The theme is ‘Fuel Up’ – in this case referring to anything from your favourite morning pick-me-up, to the burst of energy that comes with making new strides creatively and breaking new boundaries. Training and career opportunities will be showcased through presentations, forums, workshops and demonstrations.

Six Degrees have also arranged lead-up events, mainly Design Lapis and Project 636. The first is a design competition that took place at Emily Hill on the 8th of July, where each designer has fifteen minutes to put together a design based on a given theme, which each subsequent designer will then add on to. The winning designers will pitch their skills to the test in a final showdown that will take place during the fair, on the 23rd of July. Project 636, on the other hand, is a presentation-based event whereby each designer is allotted six minutes and thirty-six seconds to share their designs. This year’s edition will feature the graduates and current trainees of the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) courses.

All else aside, the fair promises to be an entertaining and rewarding time for both participants and audience. Prizes such as the new iPad 2, Macbook Air, among other enticing goodies, are also waiting to be won. Not to mention you’ll also receive the precious chance to hobnob with professionals and key players from the creative industries. Put on your (preferable stylish) thinking cap and we’ll see you there!
