Seoul Fashion Week Box #1: Gothic & Dark
My first time in Korea attending Seoul Fashion Week (SFW) was in 2008 and since then I have attended six editions of it so I can easily describe myself as a “veteran” about Korean fashion. In order to provide a customized overview of SFW last edition with collections for SS2013 I thought it could be a good idea to set up 4 boxes where to put my favorite designers in. Have fun!
SFW Box #1: Gothic & Dark
The first reason why adore Juyoung Lee (Resurrection) and Hye Myung Song (Dominic’s Way) it’s because they remind me the times of my youth and – as you know – nostalgia ever wins. Second, because we share same music taste as Joy Division and many other English bands of that golden age. Third, because they carry on their work with joy and commitment, without following main trends, playing out of the chorus.
Resurrection by Juyoung Lee – she also styled Marilyn Manson as well as Black Eyed Peas – proposal for SS2013 is a “Soft Military” with a casual and masculine look. Simple and minimal tailored designs with more practical and functional casualwear made with the hight-tech fabrics make this collection somehow artistic but at the same time werable. Main colors are black, olive green and camouflage prints on very light-weight fabrics as jersey, silk organza combined with a shiny nappa leather. Accessories are truly well-chosen and mixed with clothes, starting from leather necklace with barbed wire pattern coming to masculine baguette, without forgetting her wonderful collection of sunglasses (made in Japan) and above all the creepers shoes (I was dressing the original ones on mid-80s’). www.resurrectionbyjuyoung.com
Dominic’s Way by Song Hye Myung is a progressive menswear brand ideated for those who are proactively pushing the boundaries in order to bring out the real glamour from the inside (ever you ever listened “burning from the inside” by bauhaus band?). For SS2013 Dominic’s way is inspired by the theme “Street of Dark Soul” but surprisingly black is not the prevailing color. On the contrary, catwalk is characterized by colorful prints repeating the brand logo – a crowned skull with a Victorian collar – with svarowski insertions and tattoo patterns. Clothes’ fabrics are composed by satin, see-through, nylon and cotton, all of them light-weighted. Masterpieces of the collection – to be combined with printed items – are white smooth leather studded jacket, overall and salopette. And for the feet, creepers are suggested by Dominic’s way too, but in their ankle-high version. www.dominicsway.com
