Red Bull Flying Bach
If you thought classical music was only for the old, or something you only listen to while trying to lull yourself to sleep, Red Bull Flying Bach will prove you wrong. Red Bull Flying Bach, performed by Germany’s most popular breakdance crew The Flying Steps, combines Bach’s melodious compositions with the urban art of probably the biggest contrast there is to classical music – breakdancing. Rarely does a performance of the elegant music by Bach inspire euphoria, cheers and whistles from the audience, but Red Bull Flying Bach will certainly work it’s magic to achieve that.
Bringing their production, Red Bull Flying Bach, to Singapore for the first time, The Flying Steps will be performing 4 shows from the 16th to 18th of January 2014 at the Esplanade. Psych yourselves up for an exhilarating 70-minute show that trails the journey of six dancers and their teacher while the crew prepares for their big finals as tensions rise.
The Flying Steps, four-time breakdancing world champions, will leave audiences enraptured as their creative performance visualizes and revives Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ (Part I, fuges & preludes 1-12) note by note, step by step with piano, harpsichord and electronic beats. Accompanying the crew (made up of Lil Ceng, Mikel, Punisher, Spider, KC-1, NOno and Aldo Style) is Anna Holmström, a Swedish performer who is trained in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Contemporary Dance. Internationally acclaimed opera and concert conductor, Christoph Hagel helms the award-winning production as the Artistic Director and will be playing the piano for the show as well as the crew dances to the choreography by Vartan Bassil, founder and creative mind of The Flying Steps.
We’re extremely excited to see the juxtaposition of 2 cultures, and judging by the video below (with local slang, no less!), they are just as excited to perform for us!
