I (HEART) DUBSTEP | Insert ubiquitous ‘filthy’ joke here. Too incoherent.
Going into Home Club on 24th Sept, I had my reservations about the kind of experience I would have. Now let me first make it clear that I am neither a dubstep enthusiast, nor am I some kind of musical snob who goes around criticizing our nations stab at the arts. All I’m saying is that we’re a young country so I think we need a bit of time to warm up to what’s current and turn global.
Well, I thought we needed a bit of time, is more like it.
I’d originally heard about Singapore’s basically sole dubstep event, I (HEART) DUBSTEP, from a friend and decided to throw caution to the wind and check it out, despite past experiences with local musical ventures that left a lot to be desired.
However, after sitting through a night of delightfully familiar mixes and really, really, filthy drops I have decided that the only thing missing from our local dub scene is an audience that knows how to appreciate it. The only gripe I had with my experience was the lack of a crowd, with the exception of a stray tourist every few minutes.
Local scenies should keep an eye and an ear out for Jerls, whose set got exponentially better as the night took its toll on the crowd. My personal favourite out of the entire line-up.
The next I (HEART) DUBSTEP event will be held at Home Club, 15th Oct 2011 and they’ll be playing some filthy-ass dubstep all night from 9pm till late.
