Fashion With a Conscience | Saught
Oh, how we adore fashion. So much more if there’s a social cause attached to it. Anything that’s planned, designed and executed with the intent of providing a better future for people in every way is commendable. Fashion need not be cold and ignorant. In fact, three young and inspiring girls with hearts of gold came together with a common belief in the need for the resolution of poverty and the dissemination of the message of peace.
Saught, a word which Peace was derived from is a social enterprise that creates products from the scrap metal of landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXOs) to support sustainability in post-conflict countries. Their vision is to create work integration social business and an international community of advocates, who will champion for peace building efforts.
Saught seeks to provide a collective platform which allows the community, consumers, NGO organizations and government bodies to come together for a unified cause. The inaugural collection is a range of jewelry designed by students from Temasek Polytechnic. Over a fruitful collaboration of three months, students worked closely with artisans from their partner NGO workshops and witnessed the impact of socially conscious design. The artisans gain income and are able to build their skills which leads to consumer awareness by creating a product which conveys a story.
Pamela Yeo, Ng Sook Zhen and Adeline Heng are the founders of Saught. Lawyers in training and an analyst by day, this trio are forces to be reckoned with. All three of them have a common passion to help conflict stricken countries and to positively make a difference by initiating a business with a strong social belief and foundation.
Saught’s inaugural collection was unveiled at Actually and feedback has since been very encouraging. There are three collections, each dedicated to represent a specific issue prevalent in post-conflict countries namely Freedom from War, Freedom from Poverty and Freedom from Fear.
